The incident occurred as Katjatako was making his way home from escorting his girlfriend to the DRC informal settlement, a routine walk that ended in tragedy.

According to Erongo police spokesperson chief inspector Ileni Shapumba, the evening took a dark turn when Katjatako and a friend were approached by two men demanding to speak to him. Refusing to engage with the strangers, Katjatako found himself in a heated altercation that quickly escalated into violence.
As the situation spiralled out of control, one of the suspects produced a sharp object and struck Katjatako with a fatal blow to the upper chest near his neck. Despite the efforts of his companion to intervene, the damage had been done, and Katjatako succumbed to his injuries on the spot.

Following the brutal attack, the assailants fled the scene, leaving Katjatako lying on the ground as he struggled to make his way back home. Tragically, he managed to cover a distance of 50m before collapsing, never to rise again.
