The Border Security Force (BSF) and Assam Police arrested two alleged drug peddlers near the India-Bangladesh border in Karimganj, Assam. Silchar: Drug Peddlers Arrested Near India-Bangladesh Border

Silchar: In a joint operation conducted by the Border Security Force (BSF) and Assam Police, two alleged drug peddlers were apprehended near the India-Bangladesh international border in Assam’s Karimganj district. The incident took place on Saturday night, as officials reported.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the information through social media. Taking to X, he wrote, “In a joint operation by Karimganj Police and BSF-G Branch, Karimganj, 30,000 YABA tablets valued at ₹9cr were seized from a vehicle. Two people have been apprehended in this connection. Good job Assam Police and BSF. Assam Against Drugs.”

According to BSF officials, they received intelligence information and launched an operation in collaboration with the local police on Saturday evening at the Chorarpar area under Ramkrishna Nagar police station.

Police intercepted an auto-rickshaw in the area and discovered the Yaba tablets hidden under the seats. The arrested individuals, Saharul Islam and Atiqur Rahman, are residents of the locality, as confirmed by police.

“They have been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and are scheduled to appear before the court on Sunday,” an official stated.

SP Partha Pratim Das of Karimganj mentioned that further investigations are underway to determine the source of the narcotics supply in the region.

Meanwhile, in two separate raids on the same day, Karimganj Police arrested five suspected drug peddlers with 177 grams of heroin.

In Karimganj town, authorities seized six packets of suspected heroin and detained three individuals identified as Sahjahan Ahmed, Niyaz Uddin, and Hasan Uddin. Additionally, two drug peddlers were caught in the Sarisha area with 106 grams of heroin, as per officials.
