Zenaida O. Gardner, 72, of North Main Street, passed away surrounded by her family at the University of Vermont Medical Center. Born in the Philippines, she worked at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino before retiring. Zenaida is survived by her children, grandchildren, and siblings. She was predeceased by her husband and grandson. Losing a loved one is never easy, and the passing of Zenaida O. Gardner, 72, of Massena, New York, has left a void in the hearts of those who knew her. Zenaida passed away on June 11, 2024, surrounded by her family at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, Vermont.

Zenaida was born on March 27, 1952, in the Province of Cavite, Philippines, to the late Jose and Magdalina Rafada. She spent her early years in the Philippines, attending schools in Cavite and Dumagete before eventually moving to the United States. In San Diego, she worked for Kyocera before settling in the North Country, where she worked as a dealer at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino until her retirement.

Known for her love of cooking Filipino meals for her family, fishing, shopping, and spending time with her grandchildren, Zenaida touched the lives of many. She is survived by her children, David “Mike” Gardner, Cheryl Gardner, and Robert Gardner, as well as her grandchildren, great-grandson, siblings, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Despite the loss of her husband, David Edward Gardner, in 2009, and her grandson, Zachary Gardner, at birth, Zenaida’s memory lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. A celebration of her life will be held on June 28, 2024, from 4-6:00 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home in Massena.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association in Zenaida’s memory. Friends and family are encouraged to share memories and offer condolences on the Donaldson Funeral Home website.
