About the Incident

In Fort Wayne, Indiana, a 20-year-old man was apprehended on Thursday night following an officer-involved shooting on Holton Avenue. The incident took place around 4:45 p.m. when officers from the Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) responded to a reported burglary at a residence in the 4700 Block of Holton Avenue.

The Confrontation

Upon arriving at the scene, the officers were met with a tense situation as they encountered an armed 20-year-old man, later identified as Zar Ni Myint, attempting to flee through a rear window of the home. Myint, armed with a fully-automatic handgun, opened fire at one of the FWPD officers, prompting the officers to return fire and ultimately striking Myint.

The Aftermath

During the exchange of gunfire, one FWPD officer sustained injuries but is reported to be in a non-life-threatening condition. Despite being wounded, Myint managed to escape the scene but was later located in the 1300 Block of East Fairfax Avenue, where he was apprehended by law enforcement. Myint was found to be suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was promptly transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

Following his medical clearance, Myint was taken into custody and faces a range of preliminary charges, including attempted murder, burglary causing serious bodily injury, aggravated battery, resisting law enforcement while drawing a deadly weapon, and possession of a machine gun.
