In a tragic incident, two men lost their lives after a shooting at a car meetup in Prince George’s County, Maryland, on Thursday night. The incident occurred around 11:45 p.m. in the parking lot of the Manokeek Village shopping center on Berry Road in Accokeek.

The Victims

The two men who were fatally shot have been identified as 48-year-old Sheldon Proctor, from Waldorf, and 55-year-old Patrick Savoy from Charlotte Hall. Sheldon Proctor, who used a wheelchair, was described by a relative as a “very sweet, adorable person” who enjoyed attending car shows to relax and have a good time.

The Scene

WTOP’s Kyle Cooper, who was at the scene the following morning, described a chilling sight in the parking lot. There was a large bloodstain visible, with cans, trash, and camp chairs scattered around, indicating the chaos that ensued as people fled the gunfire the previous night.

Community Shock

Elaine, a relative of Sheldon Proctor, left flowers at the scene and expressed her disbelief at the whole situation. She described it as devastating and unbelievable that her loved one was no longer with them.

Police Investigation

Authorities are offering a $25,000 reward for any information that could lead to the identification of those involved in the shooting. A third man was also injured in the incident but managed to drive himself to the hospital for treatment.

Previous Incidents

This tragic event follows a similar shooting last month in District Heights, where 26-year-old John Phipps was fatally shot at a car meetup. Two suspects have since been charged in connection with that incident.

Police and legislative leaders in Maryland have been vocal about the dangers of “street meetups,” leading to the passing of legislation that aims to crack down on such gatherings. The law, which came into effect on June 1, seeks to impose stricter penalties for violations associated with these events.
