The accident took place when a pick-up van collided with an autorickshaw at Bakarkathi, resulting in the death of four-year-old Md Zayan, the son of Mejbahuddin Apu, and 30-year-old autorickshaw driver Saidul Islam. Additionally, four other individuals were injured in the collision, including Zayan’s mother, Mahfuza Begum, who was in critical condition and had to be transported to Dhaka for advanced medical treatment.
Eye-Witness Account
According to Afzal Hossain, chief of Bakerganj Police Station, the pick-up van was travelling from Bakerganj Cantonment to Barishal when it collided with two autorickshaws at Bakarkathi. The impact of the collision was severe, causing significant damage to one of the autorickshaws and injuring a total of six passengers.
Legal Measures and Investigation
Once the families of the deceased and injured individuals file a complaint, legal measures will be taken by the authorities. The bodies of the autorickshaw driver and the child were taken to the morgue at Barishal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital for further procedures. The damaged autorickshaws were left at the accident site, while the pick-up van responsible for the collision fled the scene.

Family’s Tragic Journey
Zayan’s uncle, Touhidur Rahman, shared that the family was on their way to Bakerganj for Eid holidays when the unfortunate accident occurred. Zayan’s father, who resides in Dhaka, was travelling with his family at the time of the incident.
Sub-Inspector Md Nasir of Bakerganj Police Station confirmed that investigations are ongoing to locate the pick-up van and hold the responsible parties accountable for their actions.
