ATLANTA – A metro Atlanta woman had a terrifying experience when a hijacked Gwinnett County transit bus crashed into her SUV during rush hour traffic on Tuesday. Stone Mountain resident Gloria White was left shaken after witnessing her car being destroyed in a matter of seconds.
White, who was out running errands on her day off, never expected to see her life flash before her eyes as she watched the bus barreling towards her at full speed. “It was so scary…I still can’t believe it,” she said.
With her brand new Nissan Rogue totaled in the collision, White considers herself lucky to have escaped with only a broken wrist. The incident took place on Hugh Howell Road in Stone Mountain, a quiet suburb located just east of Atlanta.

The chaos unfolded as the hijacker, identified as 39-year-old Joseph Grier, held the bus driver at gunpoint and forced them to veer into oncoming traffic. The bus had been involved in a 20-mile chase from downtown Atlanta to the peaceful streets of Stone Mountain.
