Memphis Police Department Investigates Fatal Shooting of Anthony “Big Jook” Mims

The Memphis Police Department continues to investigate the tragic fatal shooting of Anthony “Big Jook” Mims, which took place five months ago outside a restaurant in the Hickory Hill area. Despite ongoing efforts, no new details have been released since January, leaving the case shrouded in mystery.

Anthony Mims, a prominent figure in the music industry and brother of Memphis rapper Yo Gotti, was deeply connected to Gotti’s record label, CMG, which boasts notable rap artists like Moneybagg Yo and GloRilla. His untimely death on January 13 added to a string of hip-hop-related murders in the city, following the killing of Gotti/CMG rival Young Dolph in South Memphis.

Details of the Incident

The shooting occurred outside a restaurant where Mims was attending a repass after the funeral of a relative, Eric Bovan. Bovan, a well-known Memphis figure in the 1980s, had ties to the Bovan Family and had connections to Yo Gotti and Big Jook.

Memphis Police Department released this image of a vehicle they believe to be connected with a fatal shooting Jan. 13 on Winchester Road. The shooting left Anthony Mims dead and another male victim injured.

Memphis Police responded to the scene on Winchester Road after reports of gunshots. Two victims were found with multiple gunshot wounds, both rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, Mims succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
