Riot Fest moving to SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview; lineup released
Riot Fest is making a move to Bridgeview, unveiling the new venue as “Riotland” for the 2024 edition of the festival. Headliners include Fall Out Boy, Beck, and Slayer, with other acts like The Offspring, Public Enemy, and St. Vincent. Longtime punk band NOFX will also be playing their farewell tour at the festival. The event will take place at SeatGeek Stadium from Sept. 20-22 after leaving Douglass Park due to issues with the Chicago Park District. Riot Fest began in 2005 at various Chicago venues before moving to Humboldt Park in 2012 and then to Douglass Park in 2015. Over the years, the festival has faced criticism from residents around Douglass Park, but Ald. Monique Scott (24th Ward) has praised the festival, calling it a false narrative that the majority of the community was against it.
The Chicago Park District released a statement regarding the venue change, emphasizing the importance of community engagement in the decision-making process. They highlighted the need for event organizers to work with and understand the community in which they are hosting an event. The Park District also announced a new initiative to reinvest a portion of event revenue directly back into the parks that host special events with 3,000 or more attendees.
This move to Bridgeview marks a new chapter for Riot Fest and opens up exciting possibilities for the festival’s future.
