Bengaluru: Kannada superstar Darshan and his second wife Pavithra Gowda have been remanded to six-day police custody in connection with the alleged murder of a man named Renukaswamy (33) from Chitradurga, who was a big fan of the actor, sources revealed.

The police had produced Darshan, Pavithra, and 11 other accused persons before the magistrate’s court following their medical check-up at the Bowring Hospital. The prosecution sought their custody for further investigation.

The other accused persons, including Pavan, M. Laxman, Nikhil Nayak, Keshava Murthy, Karthik, M. Deepak Kumar, R. Nagaraju, and Raghavendra, were also presented before the court.

Darshan was arrested on Tuesday morning in connection with the alleged murder of 33-year-old Renukaswamy, whose body was found in a canal in Bengaluru on June 9.

The police stated that the deceased was a devoted fan of Darshan.

While the police initially held Darshan for questioning, Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara later confirmed the arrest.

“His involvement surfaced during the investigation, leading to Darshan being interrogated by the police. Darshan is now in police custody, and due to the severity of the case, he has been arrested,” Parameshwara stated.

Bengaluru Police Commissioner B. Dayananda disclosed that Renukaswamy was brutally murdered for sending derogatory messages to Darshan’s wife Pavithra.

Sources suggested that the actor allegedly attempted to divert the police by framing four of his fans after Renukaswamy’s body was discovered in a canal.

Preliminary investigations indicated that Renukaswamy, a staunch Darshan fan, was distressed by the discord between Darshan’s first and second wives.

Renukaswamy desired Darshan to reunite with his first wife and son, leading him to target Pavithra Gowda whenever she shared photos with the actor on social media.

Police sources mentioned that Darshan and his associates viciously assaulted Renukaswamy, inflicting severe injuries to his head, face, chest, and back. The assailants also inflicted cuts on his nose, mouth, and jaw.

Burn marks on the body indicated the use of a heated iron rod during the attack.

The family of the deceased revealed that Renukaswamy worked at a pharmacy and had been married for a year. His wife is three months pregnant.

The murder case came to light on June 9 after an unidentified body was discovered in a canal in Bengaluru.
