Teen Charged in Fatal Shooting at Halloween Party in Indianapolis

A teenager has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old at a Halloween party in Indianapolis last October. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) arrested 17-year-old Alan Peregrino for the shooting after he was apprehended for a carjacking just hours later.

Incident Details

The incident took place on October 21, 2023, when IMPD responded to a gas station on the east side of Indianapolis for a report of a person shot. Upon arrival, they found 15-year-old Edwin Simon-Osorio dead from a gunshot wound. He had been attending a Halloween party nearby.

IMPD investigators learned that a large Halloween party was taking place in the 5400 block of E. 20th Street with over 100 attendees. Gunshots were heard around 1:30 a.m., prompting a mass exodus from the party.

Arrest and Charges

Witnesses reported that Peregrino was intoxicated, brandishing two guns, and causing disturbances inside the party. He then went outside and began rapping with a gun in hand, pointing a laser at people. Simon-Osorio tried to intervene, asking Peregrino to put the guns away, but the suspect threatened to start shooting.

Shortly after the shooting, IMPD responded to a carjacking a few blocks away where Peregrino was involved. He crashed a stolen vehicle near a neighbor’s house and was seen waving a gun. Police recovered a 9mm Glock 17 with an extended magazine and green laser sight from the scene.

Evidence and Charges

IMPD connected Peregrino to the shooting based on witness descriptions and forensic evidence. Lab tests confirmed that the gun found at the carjacking scene matched the bullet casings from the party shooting. Video footage from the party also showed Peregrino waving guns.

Peregrino now faces charges of felony murder for the shooting and additional charges related to the carjacking, including kidnapping while hijacking a vehicle, armed robbery, and criminal recklessness.

Legal Proceedings

Peregrino appeared in court on Wednesday to hear his charges and is scheduled for a follow-up hearing in the coming weeks. A pretrial conference for the carjacking case is set for next Tuesday, June 18.

The IMPD investigation into the fatal shooting at the Halloween party has culminated in the arrest and charging of Peregrino, bringing some closure to the tragic incident that claimed the life of a young teenager.
