Three Men Charged in Connection with Undercover Drug Buy in East El Paso Hotel Parking Lot

In a recent development in El Paso, Texas, three men have been charged by a federal grand jury with conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. The charges were filed following the seizure of 4.8 kilograms of cocaine after a series of high-speed evasion attempts that culminated in a crash near Chito Samaniego Drive and a disabled vehicle on Gateway East Boulevard.

Undercover Operation Uncovers Cocaine

The investigation began when Homeland Security Investigations agents received information that Alejandro Torres was allegedly in possession of more than 4 kilos of cocaine. Undercover agents made contact with Torres and arranged to purchase the cocaine for $50,000. During recorded conversations, Torres referred to the kilos as “mochilitas” (little backpacks).

Torres, accompanied by a driver identified as Ricardo Isael Martinez, met with undercover agents in the parking lot of a hotel on Chito Samaniego Drive in East El Paso. Torres indicated that a second vehicle would bring the cocaine to the parking lot shortly. Alan Daniel Mendoza Cardiel arrived in a white BMW 328i, revealing four cellophane-wrapped bundles in the trunk that were identified as cocaine.

High-Speed Chase and Arrest

Law enforcement officials sprang into action when the undercover agent gave the signal, approaching the scene and instructing Mendoza to stop. However, Mendoza disregarded the commands and attempted to flee in his vehicle. A collision ensued, leading to Mendoza’s arrest.

Meanwhile, Torres and Martinez evaded law enforcement in a Nissan Altima, engaging in a high-speed chase through the neighbourhood and onto Gateway East Boulevard. Despite attempts to evade capture, law enforcement officers managed to disable the Nissan using a PIT manoeuvre, leading to the arrest of Torres and Martinez.

Legal Proceedings

Following their arrests, Torres and Martinez were taken into custody, and a loaded Glock handgun was seized from their vehicle. An arraignment has been scheduled for June 18 before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jose A. Torres in El Paso, where the men will face the charges brought against them.

As the legal process unfolds, the authorities are committed to ensuring that those involved in drug trafficking activities are held accountable for their actions. The collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies have once again resulted in the successful disruption of illegal drug operations in the region.
