Tragic Murder-Suicide in Logan County Leaves Community in Shock

A devastating tragedy unfolded in Logan County as a husband shot and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself, according to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office.

Details of the Incident

The horrific murder-suicide took place just after 8 a.m. on Monday morning outside a home in the 3400 block of Wildwood Road, located in the northern part of Edmond.

The victim, Catalina Jimenez, 43, was at the residence to pick up a coworker when her husband, Manuel Alaniz Cardenas, 51, arrived. Without warning, Cardenas fired two shots into the driver’s side of the vehicle, fatally striking and killing Jimenez.

Afterwards, Cardenas approached the passenger’s side of the car where the coworker was seated. Fortunately, the coworker managed to escape unharmed as Cardenas took his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Past Incidents and Protective Orders

According to investigators, the couple had a history of domestic-related calls, with Cardenas having been arrested previously. In November of 2023, he was charged with two counts of domestic abuse by strangulation against his wife.

Following the incident, Jimenez obtained a protective order against Cardenas, which was still in effect at the time of her tragic murder.

Presence of a Child

Tragically, the couple’s young child was inside the home at the time of the shooting. Fortunately, the child was unharmed during the incident.
