The Austin Police Department has released body camera footage of a deadly officer-involved shooting in North Austin. The incident occurred on May 27, around 1:34 a.m., following a disturbance call in the 12500 block of Tech Ridge Blvd. Officers arrived to find a man, later identified as 46-year-old Ensel Maclare-Urgelles, actively stabbing a woman. In order to protect the victim, an officer shot Maclare-Urgelles. The victim sustained life-threatening injuries but has since been released from the hospital. Officer Cody Schulz, who fired the shot, has been placed on administrative duty. AUSTIN, Texas – The Austin Police Department has released body camera footage of a harrowing incident that took place in North Austin. On May 27, in the early hours of the morning, officers responded to a disturbance call in the 12500 block of Tech Ridge Blvd. The caller reported hearing a heated argument, glass breaking, and sounds of violence between a man and a woman.

Violent Confrontation Unfolds

Upon arriving at the scene, officers were met with a disturbing sight. A man, later identified as 46-year-old Ensel Maclare-Urgelles, was seen viciously attacking a female victim with a knife. Without hesitation, an APD officer intervened to protect the victim’s life, ultimately using their firearm to stop the assailant.

Tragic Outcome

The victim sustained life-threatening injuries during the attack but has fortunately been released from the hospital since. Unfortunately, Maclare-Urgelles succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the hospital. The body camera footage captured the intense and tragic sequence of events as they unfolded.

Investigations Underway

In the aftermath of this incident, the Austin Police Department has initiated two separate investigations.
