A tragic incident occurred on Lake Allatoona in Cherokee County, Georgia, as a 40-year-old man named Robbie Cornelius drowned while tubing with a group near Little River Marina. Despite efforts from Cherokee Fire, EMS, and the Sheriff’s Office, Cornelius, who was not wearing a life jacket, succumbed to the water after complaining of leg pain. The group was forced to leave him in the water when he began pulling them under. His body was eventually located by the Cherokee Fire and EMS dive team using side scan SONAR and recovered in 16-feet of water. The victim’s body has been handed over to the coroner for further investigation.

A tragic incident unfolded on Lake Allatoona in Cherokee County, Georgia, where a 40-year-old man lost his life while tubing near Little River Marina.

Cherokee Fire, EMS, and the Sheriff’s Office swiftly responded to the distress call at approximately 2:26 on a Sunday afternoon.

According to the Department of Natural Resources, the victim tragically wasn’t wearing a life jacket when he fell off his tube, leading to a series of unfortunate events.

Several compassionate individuals in the group courageously jumped into the water to assist the victim, who immediately complained of leg pain.

However, the situation took a turn for the worse when the victim began pulling those trying to help him under the water, forcing the group to make a difficult decision.

In a race against time, officials deployed side scan SONAR technology to locate the victim underwater. After a painstaking search, the Cherokee Fire and EMS dive team successfully recovered the victim’s body in 16 feet of water just before 5 p.m.

Tragically, the victim was identified as 40-year-old Robbie Cornelius of Marietta, adding a heartbreaking dimension to the already devastating incident.
