Aktaruzzaman, the mastermind behind the murder and Kamal’s cousin, provided Shimul with Kamal’s mobile number before the lawmaker’s murder in Kolkata on 13 May. Currently, 12 individuals have been implicated in the murder, with some suspects already under arrest in Dhaka and Kolkata.

The two individuals then met at Faridpur’s Bhanga on 17 May, where they reportedly discussed the incriminating picture and a suspicious transaction of money.

Mastermind Aktaruzzaman’s Connection to Kamal

Further complicating the case is the revelation that Aktaruzzaman alias Shahin, the alleged mastermind behind the murder, is a cousin of Kazi Kamal. DB sources disclosed that Aktaruzzaman provided Shimul Bhuiyan with Kamal’s mobile phone number before the tragic incident took place.

Following the murder, Aktaruzzaman fled the country and was traced to Delhi, Kathmandu, and eventually the USA via Dubai. In the meantime, several individuals connected to the case have been apprehended, including Md Siam Hossain in Nepal and ‘butcher’ Jihad Hawlader in Kolkata.

Back in Dhaka, four individuals have been arrested in connection with the murder, including Shimul Bhuiyan, Tanvir Bhuiyan, Silasti Rahman, and Kazi Kamal. The first three suspects have reportedly confessed to their crimes in court, shedding light on the events leading up to the fateful incident in Kolkata.

Despite these arrests, several individuals remain at large, including Mustafizur Rahman, Faisal Ali Saji, Chelsea Cherry alias Ariya, Taz Mohammad Khan alias Haji, and Md Jamal Hossain. The DB continues its efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects and bring them to justice.
