Suspects Charged

The primary suspect, Adolfo Aguirre-Mendiola, 27, faces two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 179th State District Court, as well as violation of a protective order in Harris County Criminal Court #7. A second suspect, David Rojas, 44, has been charged with misdemeanor theft in Harris County Criminal Court #2.

The Altercation

According to HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detectives M. George and J. Windham, the incident began when a female victim, aged 28, had her property taken by Rojas. Aguirre-Mendiola intervened in an attempt to retrieve the stolen property, which led to a physical altercation between him and Rojas. During the scuffle, Aguirre-Mendiola discharged a weapon, injuring both Rojas and a male bystander, aged 45.

Arrest and Investigation

Both injured individuals were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Following an investigation, Aguirre-Mendiola was identified as the primary suspect. After consulting with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, charges were filed against him. Aguirre-Mendiola was subsequently arrested on June 6 and booked into the Harris County Jail. However, Rojas remains at large.
