One man has died and several others were injured in a high-speed chase through downtown Graham. The incident occurred on Saturday, June 8, when Juan Carlos Lemus Aguilera was identified as a suspected reckless driver near Walmart. Aguilera failed to yield to police and collided with a residence on Elm Street, injuring six occupants. The injuries were not life-threatening according to City Manager Eric Garretty. One man has tragically lost his life and several others have been injured following a high-speed chase through downtown Graham, a small town located in Young County, Texas.

The Incident

At approximately 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, the Graham Police Department received reports of a suspected reckless driver near Walmart. The driver was later identified as Juan Carlos Lemus Aguilera. A Graham police officer spotted Aguilera’s vehicle, a gray Chevrolet Silverado, and attempted to pull him over.

However, Aguilera refused to stop and instead accelerated while heading northbound on Elm Street. The situation quickly escalated as Aguilera lost control of the vehicle at the intersection of Elm and South Streets. He sideswiped another vehicle before crashing into a home in the 800 block of Elm Street. The driver of the vehicle that was sideswiped fortunately escaped without any injuries.

The Aftermath

Unfortunately, Aguilera was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The impact of the collision also resulted in injuries to six individuals inside the residence. Among the injured were Kaitlynn Everett, 24, and her 1-year-old son, Kennady Everett, along with Haydn Jarvis, 23, Chastidie Mitchell, 45, and Daniel Skinner, 39. Their injuries ranged from a fractured skull to broken bones and lacerations.

Thankfully, City Manager Eric Garretty confirmed that none of the injuries sustained were life-threatening. However, one individual did suffer severe trauma to the head and face and had to be airlifted to Harris Methodist Hospital for further treatment.

Community Support

In response to the tragic incident, a GoFundMe page was set up to provide support for those injured in the home during the crash. As of Monday afternoon, the fundraiser had already raised $5,925 towards its $50,000 goal.

Investigation and Assistance

The Graham Police Department has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, with assistance from the Texas Department of Public Safety. Deputies from the Young County Sheriff’s Office, Graham EMS, and Graham Fire Department were also on hand to provide support at the scene.

Details regarding Aguilera’s age and last known place of residence have not been confirmed at this time.
