The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) was called to action on a Saturday morning in June 2024, responding to a distressing 911 call reporting a shooting incident. The call indicated that two individuals had been shot and were attempting to seek help while fleeing the scene in a vehicle. The dispatcher directed the injured men to the Plum Grove Fire Department, located at 7733 FM 1010 in Cleveland, Texas, just three miles away from where the incident occurred.

Upon their arrival at the fire department, emergency medical services (EMS) personnel wasted no time in assessing the victims’ injuries and swiftly transporting them to Kingwood Hospital for further medical attention. Concurrently, patrol deputies were informed that the shooting had taken place near CR 340 and immediately began scouring the area for the crime scene. The Criminal Investigation Division was promptly notified and dispatched to provide additional support in the investigation.

The two victims were identified as Richard Soto, aged 20, and Edgar Garrido, aged 21, both residents of Cleveland. Following initial interviews at Kingwood Hospital, investigators were able to pinpoint the exact location of the crime scene to the 200 block of CR 3408 within the Bella Vista Subdivision. A search warrant was swiftly obtained for the residence, prompting the activation of the Liberty County Special Response Team (SRT) to carry out the search operation.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the victims had driven to the suspects’ residence, where they were met by three individuals in the driveway—two adult males and one juvenile female. Tragically, shortly after their arrival, the two male suspects allegedly opened fire on the vehicle, resulting in injuries to both victims. The suspects were identified as Mario Loza, aged 17, and Jayden Christley, aged 18, both residents of Cleveland, along with a 15-year-old female juvenile.

Mario Loza was swiftly apprehended in the early hours of Sunday, June 9, 2024, and subsequently charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He is currently being held at the Liberty County Jail pending further legal proceedings. However, Jayden Christley remains at large, with two warrants issued for his arrest on the same charges. The juvenile female was released into the custody of her mother and is not expected to face charges related to the incident.

Captain David Meyers, the official spokesperson for the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed that both victims underwent surgery shortly after arriving at Kingwood Hospital and are currently in stable condition. Meyers urged anyone with information on Jayden Christley’s whereabouts to reach out to the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office at 936-336-4500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-392-7867, emphasizing that Christley should be considered armed and dangerous.

In this distressing turn of events, the community is urged to remain vigilant and report any relevant information that may assist in bringing Jayden Christley to justice. The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office remains dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents, and your cooperation is greatly appreciated in helping to resolve this shocking incident.
