The Incident

According to a senior police official, the driver of the Audi Q3, identified as 56-year-old Virendra Mehta, a lawyer from Mukherjee Nagar, lost control of his vehicle, resulting in the fatal collision with the two rickshaw pullers. The impact of the accident was so severe that one of the victims, identified as Govind, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital.

Police Response

Following a PCR call received at the Maurice Nagar Police Station at 1:16 PM, immediate action was taken by the authorities. The accused driver, Virendra Mehta, was promptly arrested, and a thorough investigation was launched into the circumstances surrounding the incident. While alcohol was not detected in the breath of the accused at the hospital, a blood sample was collected for further examination at the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL).

Medical Examination

Both victims were rushed to the Hindu Rao Hospital for a comprehensive medical examination by the investigating officer. Despite the best efforts of the medical staff, Govind’s condition deteriorated, necessitating his transfer to LNJP Hospital for advanced treatment. The injured rickshaw puller, Ashok, continues to receive medical care at Hindu Rao Hospital.
