The Arrest of Two Suspects in Southern California for Massive LEGO Theft
In a surprising turn of events, two individuals have been apprehended in California for their involvement in a large-scale LEGO theft operation. The suspects, Richard Siegel, 71, from Long Beach, and Blanca Gudino, 39, from Lawndale, were taken into custody by the Los Angeles Police Department.
Discovery of the Theft Ring
The investigation began in December 2023 when detectives received reports of multiple thefts at a Target store in Los Angeles. Loss prevention personnel identified Gudino as the primary suspect in these incidents.
On June 4, law enforcement officials observed Gudino stealing LEGO products from Target stores in Torrance and Lakewood, both located in the Los Angeles area. Subsequently, she was seen delivering the stolen merchandise to Siegel’s residence in Long Beach.
The Raid and Recovery of Stolen Goods
Following these observations, a search warrant was executed at Siegel’s home, where authorities made a startling discovery. Inside the residence, over 2,800 boxes of stolen LEGO toy sets were found, valued at thousands of dollars.

Photographs from the raid depict shelves filled with LEGO boxes, transforming the living room into what resembled a warehouse of stolen goods.
The Stolen Merchandise
Most of the stolen toys were collector’s items or high-end sets, with individual retail prices ranging from $20 to over $1,000 each, according to LAPD. Among the stolen sets were popular themes such as Star Wars, Ninjago, Harry Potter, Technic vehicles, LEGO Architecture, Marvel, Minecraft, and special pop-culture editions.
Notably, one of the stolen items appeared to be a demo set encased in plexiglass, typically reserved for display in-store.
Legal Ramifications and Ongoing Investigations
As a result of the bust, Siegel was arrested on charges of organized retail theft, while Gudino faces allegations of grand theft. The investigation into these incidents is still ongoing.
This incident comes on the heels of a spate of thefts targeting Bricks & Minifigs stores across Southern California, where thieves forcibly entered multiple locations and made off with approximately $100,000 worth of LEGO toys.
It is clear that organized retail theft continues to be a significant concern for law enforcement agencies, and efforts are ongoing to combat this criminal activity.
