The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office arrested two juveniles in connection with multiple vehicle thefts in Iredell County, North Carolina. The incident occurred early Sunday morning when deputies responded to a stolen vehicle report in the Troutman area. The suspects led deputies on a pursuit through downtown Statesville before crashing the vehicle and fleeing on foot. Evidence recovered from the stolen vehicle led to the identification of a 15-year-old suspect and an 18-year-old accomplice. Charges include larceny of a motor vehicle, breaking or entering a motor vehicle, and other related offenses. The suspects are currently in custody at the Iredell County Detention Center.

Teens Arrested in Connection to Multiple Vehicles Stolen in Iredell, North Carolina

The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office has apprehended two juveniles in relation to a series of vehicle thefts in Iredell County, North Carolina.

Early on a Sunday morning, deputies from the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the Troutman area following a report of a stolen vehicle from the caller’s driveway. After collecting information about the stolen car, deputies initiated a search of the area.

Shortly thereafter, Iredell County deputies observed the stolen vehicle being driven through downtown Statesville. A pursuit ensued when deputies attempted to pull over the vehicle, but the driver evaded them. Despite the driver crashing the vehicle and fleeing on foot, deputies discovered incriminating evidence inside the stolen vehicle that linked back to the suspect.

The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office received further reports on the same day of car break-ins in northern Iredell County and the Troutman area, as well as another vehicle stolen from a home in northern Iredell County.

Identification of Suspects

After conducting interviews and examining evidence recovered from the stolen vehicle, detectives were able to identify a 15-year-old male teenager as the individual responsible for driving the stolen car and breaking into the vehicles that night.

An additional suspect, identified as 18-year-old Steven Michael Potts from Statesville, was found to have assisted the teenager in the car break-ins and was also responsible for stealing the second vehicle. Arrest warrants were issued for Potts, leading to his apprehension on Thursday.

Following interviews with both suspects, detectives successfully recovered the second stolen vehicle in northern Iredell County.

Charges and Detention

Steven Michael Potts was taken into custody and charged with:

  • Two counts of felony larceny of a motor vehicle
  • Seven counts of felony breaking or entering a motor vehicle
  • Misdemeanor attempt to break or enter a motor vehicle
  • Misdemeanor resist, delay, or obstruct a law enforcement officer
  • Misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor
  • Misdemeanor no operator’s license

Potts is currently detained at the Iredell County Detention Center on a $55,000 secured bond.

The 15-year-old suspect is facing charges through the Department of Juvenile Justice, including:

  • Two counts of felony larceny of a motor vehicle
  • Seven counts of felony breaking or entering a motor vehicle
  • Felony fleeing to elude arrest
  • Felony larceny of a firearm
  • Misdemeanor attempted breaking or entering of a motor vehicle
  • Several traffic offenses

Investigations are ongoing, and authorities continue to work towards resolving the case.
