The Department of Education (DepEd) in Dumaguete City is preparing to use a newly-acquired site for its two elementary schools in time for the national learning camp. The City Central Elementary School and Calindagan Elementary School will be moving to the former Catherina Cittadini – St. Louis School (CC-SLS) site, which was officially turned over to DepEd. The national learning camp will offer remedial classes for students who need extra help and enrichment activities for high-achieving students. Teachers and students will receive allowances and service credits for their participation. The new site boasts a variety of facilities to support the educational activities.

Are you a parent in Dumaguete City curious about the latest developments in the education sector? Well, you’re in for some exciting news! The Department of Education (DepEd) city schools division in Dumaguete City is gearing up to utilize a newly-acquired site for its two elementary schools just in time for the national learning camp.

In a recent announcement, Juditha Mapue, the chief of the curriculum implementation department of the City Schools Division, revealed that the former Catherina Cittadini – St. Louis School (CC-SLS) has been officially turned over to DepEd by the city government. This 1.8-hectare property in Barangay Calindagan will now house the City Central Elementary School and the Calindagan Elementary School.

The national learning camp, scheduled from July 1 to 19, aims to provide remedial classes for students who need extra support to reach proficiency levels, as well as enrichment opportunities for high-achieving students. This initiative will cover students from Grades 1 to 10, including senior high levels. The focus areas will include reading, numeracy, English, Science, and Math.

What’s interesting is that participation in the national learning camp is entirely voluntary for both students and teachers. Teachers who opt to participate will receive a PHP250-a-day meal allowance and service credits for 15 days. It’s a great opportunity for students to enhance their skills and for teachers to make a meaningful impact on their students’ academic journey.

Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo, alongside other city officials, recently handed over the symbolic key to Salustiano Jimenez, director of DepEd 7 (Central Visayas), marking the official transfer of the CC-SLS property. This site boasts more than a dozen buildings with standard-sized classrooms, a gymnasium, laboratories, cafeterias, a chapel, a road network with ample parking space, a playground, a grotto, and various other amenities.

One key point to note is that the two public elementary schools will not be merged at the new site. Instead, they will be co-located, allowing each school to maintain its unique identity and community. This move ensures that students and teachers from both schools can benefit from the new facilities and resources while preserving the individual characteristics of each institution.

As the DepEd city schools division in Dumaguete City gears up for this exciting transition, parents, students, and teachers can look forward to a dynamic and engaging learning environment. The national learning camp promises to be a valuable opportunity for students to enhance their academic skills and for teachers to make a positive impact on their students’ learning journey.

So, if you’re a parent in Dumaguete City, be sure to stay tuned for more updates on the new elementary school site and the upcoming national learning camp. It’s an exciting time for education in the city, and there’s plenty to look forward to in the months ahead!
