A northern Iredell County resident and a juvenile are facing multiple charges related to the theft of two vehicles and several car break-ins, as announced by Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell. The arrest of Steven Michael Potts, 18, and the juvenile was made after deputies responded to a stolen vehicle report in the Troutman area. The suspects led deputies on a vehicle pursuit, resulting in a crash and escape on foot. Further investigation revealed Potts assisted the juvenile in the crimes. Potts was taken into custody and charged with various offenses, while detectives are pursuing charges against the juvenile through the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Theft and Car Break-Ins Lead to Arrest of Northern Iredell County Resident and Juvenile

A recent incident in northern Iredell County has resulted in the arrest of an 18-year-old resident, Steven Michael Potts, and a juvenile in connection with the theft of two vehicles and multiple car break-ins. The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office (ICSO) announced the arrests in a recent news release.
Incident Details
The incident unfolded in the Troutman area in the early morning hours of Sunday, June 2, when ICSO deputies responded to a report of a stolen vehicle from a resident’s driveway. Following the report, deputies immediately began searching the area and spotted the stolen vehicle being driven through downtown Statesville shortly after.

As deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver initiated a short pursuit and eventually crashed the vehicle before fleeing the scene on foot, evading capture by law enforcement.
Additional Reports
Later that day, ICSO personnel received reports of several car break-ins in northern Iredell County and the Troutman area, along with a second vehicle theft from a residence in the same area. The cases were assigned to ICSO criminal investigators who identified a 15-year-old male as the primary suspect involved in the car break-ins and vehicle thefts throughout the night.
Further investigation revealed that Steven Potts was the second suspect in the case, assisting the juvenile in the car break-ins and the theft of the second vehicle. Potts was subsequently taken into custody on Thursday, June 6, following the issuance of arrest warrants.
Charges and Arrest
Potts is facing charges that include two counts of felony Larceny of Motor Vehicle, seven counts of felony Breaking or Entering a Motor Vehicle, misdemeanor Resist, Delay, or Obstruct a Law Enforcement Officer, and more. He is currently held at the Iredell County Detention Center under a $55,000 secured bond.
ICSO detectives are also pursuing charges against the juvenile suspect through the Department of Juvenile Justice, including multiple felony and misdemeanor offenses related to the thefts and break-ins. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be forthcoming.
