ANNAPOLIS, Md. – A tragic incident occurred in Glen Burnie, Maryland, where a young newlywed couple’s lives were forever changed in a fatal pedestrian crash. The incident took place on Aquahart Road, where a speeding driver struck the couple, killing the woman and critically injuring her husband. The driver, identified as Austin Keith Seagraves, 21, fled the scene, leaving the victims behind.
The victims, Fidel Angel Castro, 23, and Arielle Starr Dryden-Bera, 22, were high school sweethearts who had recently gotten married. They were out for a walk to get ice cream when the tragedy struck. Castro was rushed to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with life-threatening injuries, while Dryden-Bera tragically lost her life at the scene.
Witnesses at the scene reported that Seagraves was driving at more than 50 miles per hour in a 30-mph zone on Aquahart Road. He overcorrected his vehicle in an attempt to avoid a curb, veering onto the sidewalk where the couple was walking. Following the crash, Seagraves fled the scene, leaving the victims in need of help. He did not possess a driver’s license and was found to be distracted while speeding leading up to the incident.
On May 19, 2023, Seagraves pleaded guilty to Negligent Manslaughter by Automobile, Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Death. The sentencing hearing took place in a federal courtroom in Annapolis, Maryland, where State’s Attorney Anne Colt Leitess announced that Seagraves would serve seven years in prison, with a total sentence of 25 years, plus five years of supervised probation upon release.

The incident took place on August 24, 2022, just before 7 p.m., near the intersection of Aquahart Road and Oakwood Road in Glen Burnie.
