Woman Arrested for Murder Following Deadly Stabbing in San Jose
On Wednesday, a woman was taken into custody on suspicion of murder after a fatal stabbing in San Jose earlier this week, according to police reports.
The incident occurred around 11:20 a.m. on Sunday in the vicinity of North 17th and East Santa Clara streets. Authorities were alerted to the scene where a man was discovered on the ground, bleeding and unresponsive. The initial call suggested that the man may have been involved in a disturbance.
Upon arrival, officers found the man with at least one stab wound. Despite efforts from both police and paramedics to save him, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released, but authorities have confirmed that this incident marks the city’s 17th homicide of 2024.
Police Investigation Leads to Arrest
Following the discovery of the victim, a homicide investigation was launched. Detectives were able to identify a suspect in the case. On Wednesday, officers located the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Sylvia Ortega, at a residence in San Jose.

Ortega was taken into custody and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of murder. Jail records indicate that she is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday afternoon.
