A 44-year-old woman in San Bernardino County was arrested on child abuse charges after leaving her three young children alone for hours to smoke cocaine. Deputies conducted a welfare check and found the children alone for five hours. The woman, Marinda Montanez, was later arrested for neglecting approximately 50 dogs in cages without food. Woman Arrested in San Bernardino County for Child Abuse
A 44-year-old woman in San Bernardino County was arrested on child abuse charges just hours after investigators said she left her three young children alone for hours while she smoked cocaine at another location.
The incident took place in a short-term rental in Big Bear City, a serene location in the heart of San Bernardino County. Deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department conducted a welfare check at the rental property after receiving a concerning report. They discovered that the woman, identified as Marinda Montanez, had left her children, including her 8-year-old daughter, alone for approximately five hours.
Animals Neglected in Fawnskin Home
Following the welfare check in Big Bear City, deputies were called to Montanez’s home in the 39000 block of North Shore Drive in Fawnskin. There, they found approximately 50 neglected dogs left in cages in the heat without food. Montanez claimed to be the caretaker for the animals, but most of the dogs were confiscated by San Bernardino County Animal Control.
Montanez was arrested on charges of animal cruelty and later released on a citation. However, just hours later, investigators were called back to her home in Fawnskin after receiving reports that she was neglecting her 8-year-old daughter. The young girl was taken to Big Bear Valley Community Hospital for treatment of unspecified wounds and later released.

Children Removed from Montanez’s Care
As a result of the neglect allegations, Montanez’s three children were removed from her home and placed with Child and Family Services. Detectives revealed that on May 31, Montanez had left her children alone to smoke cocaine in Victorville. The authorities did not disclose how they obtained this information.
Montanez was subsequently arrested for child abuse and neglect and booked at the Big Bear Jail. She is currently in custody at the West Valley Detention Center on $100,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on June 4.
