DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) — A 2018 shark attack survivor is reaching out to offer support to Caleb Adams, the man who was recently bitten by a shark off the coast of Del Mar. The incident has brought back memories of his own harrowing experience.
The attack on Adams marks the third shark encounter off the San Diego County coastlines in the last six years. In 2018, Keane Hayes was bitten by a shark while lobster diving in Encinitas at the young age of 13. Now 19, Hayes attends college in Colorado and works as a lifeguard for the City of Encinitas during the summer.
Reflecting on the incident, Hayes expressed, “It’s definitely like a very full-circle moment. I’ve been working at the beach I got bit at, and one day I was walking on the trails, and I was like, ‘Wow, I almost died over there.'” Hayes has already reached out to Caleb’s family to offer his support during this difficult time.
Challenges of Murky Water Conditions
The water conditions on the morning of the attack were reported to be murky.
