AKHNOOR, June 2: In a tragic turn of events in the Akhnoor area of Jammu district, another unfortunate accident has claimed the lives of two individuals and left 17 others injured, with five in critical condition.

Details of the Incident
The incident took place on a fateful day when a matador (JK02AQ-8477) en route to Selanwali from Akhnoor lost control near Dhangri in Kaleeth Village around 5:45 pm. The vehicle, driven by a cleaner lacking proper driving skills, led to injuries to a total of 19 people. In a shocking development, two individuals lost their lives upon arrival at the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Akhnoor, while five severely injured victims were immediately referred to Government Medical College Jammu for further treatment.
The deceased were identified as Divyansh Bhagat (26), son of Harbans Lal of Chajwal, Kharah Balli, Khour, and Kewal Kumar (26), son of Chuni Lal of Sarmala, Kharah Balli, Khour. The injured individuals were from various locations in Akhnoor and surrounding areas, including Narayana, Khour, and Marh, Jammu.
Police Investigation
According to a police officer on the scene, the accident occurred due to the cleaner, who was inexperienced, taking control of the vehicle after the driver handed it over to him. The cleaner, barely driving a few kilometres, lost control of the matador, resulting in the tragic incident. Both the driver and the cleaner fled the scene following the accident, prompting a manhunt to locate them.
Legal Action Taken
The local police registered a case under FIR number 93/2024 at the Akhnoor Police Station, invoking relevant sections of the law to initiate a thorough investigation into the matter. The authorities are determined to bring those responsible for the accident to justice and prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
