When confronted by Austin Powell, 27, about the destruction, a verbal altercation ensued. Martinez, displaying reckless behaviour, started skipping and hopping around while firing bullets towards Powell and his vehicle. Tragically, Powell was struck and pronounced dead at the scene, while Jonathan Fuentes, also in the vehicle, was critically injured and later succumbed to his wounds.

Legal Ramifications and Justice Served

After a thorough legal process, Daniel Martinez was found guilty on two counts of first-degree murder by a jury on May 31. He now faces a sentence of 25 years to life in the Utah State Prison, pending a sentencing hearing scheduled for July 18.

Co-Conspirator’s Conviction

Another individual involved in the shooting, Ashtyn Ortega, 20, was convicted of second-degree felony manslaughter and first-degree felony discharge of a firearm in April 2023. Ortega was sentenced to a minimum of five years in prison, up to life, and ordered to pay a restitution of $28,730.
