Efforts from multiple agencies on Saturday led to the rescue of a man from the White River in Jackson County, as reported by the sheriff’s department in Seymour, Ind. At 5:20 p.m., a 911 call was received about a male in the White River near the Belford Public Access Site just off State Road 358 West of Seymour. The rescued man, identified as Dalton Sawyer, 23, from Edinburgh, had been floating down the river in an innertube with friends when he got separated. Thanks to the quick response and teamwork from all agencies involved, Sawyer was safely rescued and transported to Schneck Medical Center for treatment, ultimately being released with no injuries.

Over the weekend, a dramatic rescue took place in Seymour, Indiana, as multiple agencies worked together to save a man from the treacherous waters of the White River in Jackson County. The swift actions of these first responders prevented a potential tragedy from occurring.

It all began when the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department received a distress call at 5:20 p.m. reporting a male individual in trouble in the White River near the Belford Public Access Site just off State Road 358 West of Seymour. The man was identified as Dalton Sawyer, a 23-year-old resident of Edinburgh.
A Day Out on the River Takes a Terrifying Turn
According to reports, Sawyer had been floating down the river in an innertube with a group of friends when his tube became untethered from one of the kayaks in the group. It wasn’t until approximately 10 minutes later that his friends realized he was missing, sparking a frantic search along the riverbanks.
Intensive Search Efforts Pay Off
Multiple agencies sprang into action, combing the area in search of Sawyer. A deputy eventually spotted a hint of blue caught in a log jam about a quarter of a mile north of the Public Access Site. It was later confirmed that the blue innertube belonged to Sawyer.
Dramatic Rescue Operation Ensues
The Brownstown Fire Department deployed an airboat to reach the stranded man, who was found unresponsive. With great skill and precision, they managed to extract Sawyer from the water and transport him to the Public Access Site, where he was then rushed to Schneck Medical Center for further evaluation.
Grateful Outcome and Words of Appreciation
Fortunately, Sawyer was treated and released from the hospital with no serious injuries. Sheriff Rick Meyer expressed his gratitude for the quick response and seamless teamwork displayed by all the agencies involved, acknowledging that without their efforts, the situation could have had a much graver outcome.
