Details of the Minneapolis Shooting Incident

Last week, a tragic shooting incident took place at an apartment building on Blaisdell Avenue in Minneapolis, resulting in the deaths of three individuals, including Officer Jamal Mitchell. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) has identified the officers involved in the shooting and provided more information about the sequence of events that unfolded on that fateful day.

Officers Involved

The officers who fired their weapons during the incident have been named as Nick Kapinos and Luke Kittock. Kapinos, a law enforcement veteran with 10 years of experience, discharged his department handgun, while Kittock, with nine years of experience, used his department rifle. Both officers are currently on critical incident leave as the investigation continues.

Sequence of Events

According to the BCA’s investigation, the incident began when officers responded to reports of a shooting at the apartment building. Officer Jamal Mitchell was the first to arrive on the scene and encountered two injured individuals, later identified as Mustafa Ahmed Mohamed and a bystander who had been shot. As Mitchell approached Mohamed, the suspect unexpectedly pulled out a gun and fatally shot the officer at close range.

Subsequent to Mitchell’s shooting, Mohamed continued to fire his weapon, prompting other officers to intervene.
