A driver who was caught on camera assaulting a traffic police officer in a road rage incident along Kamiti Road, Nairobi, has been apprehended by the authorities. The driver, identified as Njoroge, was found hiding in a house in Kayole, Nairobi, hours after the incident took place.
Arrest and Charges
According to the police, the driver will face charges of attempted murder among other offences. He was located in the Jacaranda area on Sunday night as he was reportedly preparing to flee the scene. It is believed that the driver was aware of the manhunt against him and had made plans to move to a different location within Nairobi.
Incident Details
The shocking incident occurred on Sunday morning after the driver, accompanied by another individual in a salon car, made a wrong U-turn at Mirema junction. As they tried to correct their mistake, the car ended up stuck in a ditch, attracting the attention of the police.
Corporal Jacob Ogendo arrived at the scene and assisted in removing the vehicle from the ditch. He then instructed the driver to proceed to Kasarani police station. However, upon reaching a supermarket in the vicinity, the driver suddenly brandished a sword, forcing the officer to jump out of the vehicle for his safety.
Assault and Escape
The driver proceeded to physically attack the officer, punching and kicking him as he lay on the ground. Despite sustaining injuries, the officer managed to escape further harm when bystanders intervened and the assailant fled the scene. The officer was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Manhunt and Capture
A coordinated effort by the police led to the arrest of the driver’s accomplice at the scene of the incident. The driver managed to escape with a police communication device that was in the vehicle. However, he was later tracked down and apprehended in Kayole, bringing an end to the search operation.
