Police Identify Parole Officer Killed in Chevy Chase; Search for Suspect Ongoing

Montgomery County police are on the lookout for a man wanted in connection with the death of a Maryland Parole and Probation agent whose body was discovered Friday night in a Chevy Chase apartment, according to authorities.

The victim, identified as Davis Martinez, 33, of Silver Spring, was a dedicated six-year employee of the Maryland Department of Public Safety & Correctional Services, as revealed during a Saturday afternoon press briefing at the county’s public safety headquarters in Gaithersburg.

Suspect at Large

The department’s Major Crimes Division is actively seeking Emanuel Edward Sewell, 54, of Chevy Chase, in connection with Martinez’s death, which has been classified as a homicide by the state medical examiner’s office. A warrant for Sewell’s arrest has been issued, charging him with second-degree murder.

Sewell, a registered sex offender released in March 2021, is described as a Black male, 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing about 250 pounds. He may be driving a gray 2017 Hyundai Elantra with Maryland license plates 93661HT. The suspect is considered armed and dangerous, and the public is advised not to approach him if spotted.

Blue Alert Issued

Maryland State Police have issued a Blue Alert to aid in the search for Sewell. The alert is an emergency notification utilized to assist law enforcement in locating suspects when an officer has been killed, is missing, or there is a threat to officers.

Police responded to the 2800 block of Terrace Drive in Chevy Chase around 5:50 p.m. on Friday for a welfare check on the parole agent, who had not returned to work after a resident check of Sewell. Martinez was found deceased at the scene, and his body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, where it was determined to be a homicide.
