Undersheriff Pat Breeden described the attack as a premeditated and targeted act. Hernandez revealed to detectives that he had ordered two weapons online, played with them upon their arrival, and then walked nearly six miles to the victim’s residence.

The events unfolded around 10:11 PM when Hernandez, armed with a scythe and a pocket knife, arrived unannounced at the home where the sleepover was taking place. The victim, Connor Michael Gill, was caught off guard by the sudden intrusion.
