According to reports from Harian Metro, the Johor Bahru Larkin Fire Department received a distress call about the accident at approximately 7:20 AM. Responding swiftly, 12 firefighters, an ambulance, and a fire truck were dispatched to the scene, arriving at 7:27 AM.

Photos shared by the fire department depicted the vehicle losing control and falling into the drain, with water quickly submerging the car’s roof, trapping the three individuals inside. Firefighters utilized ropes and stretchers to extract the victims from the submerged vehicle.

In an emotional statement to Harian Metro, Wan Rou’s younger sister, Miss Chu, expressed her family’s shock at the sudden tragedy. She recounted the harrowing experience of receiving a phone call at 7:30 AM, informing them of the accident but not receiving any further details until much later.

“We were shocked when my sister’s and Siew Chern’s friends from abroad contacted us, stating that the three of them were involved in an accident while on their way to work in Singapore this morning,” Miss Chu tearfully shared.

The accident was believed to have been caused by slippery road conditions following a bout of rain. Superintendent Yusof Othman, Deputy District Police Chief of Johor Bahru North, revealed that the vehicle, driven by one of the victims, lost control, skidded off the road, and plummeted into the water-filled drain.

Health Ministry paramedics confirmed the tragic deaths upon arrival at the scene, and the bodies were handed over to the police for further investigations. The accident site was cleared by 8:37 AM, with firefighters concluding their operations by 8:40 AM.

Miss Chu mentioned that after the completion of the post-mortem process, she would be taking her sister’s and brother’s remains back to Yong Peng, Batu Pahat, for cremation ceremonies.

The victims, well-known in their community, held various roles—a restaurant worker, a beautician, and an employee at a local salon. Their friends and family mourned the loss, reminiscing about the close bond shared by the Chu siblings and their recent visit to their elderly parents in Yong Peng.
