Tragic incident on the Colorado River

On a sunny Saturday afternoon in Grand County, Colorado, tragedy struck when a raft capsized in the Colorado River, leaving a 61-year-old man missing. The incident occurred at the Yarmony Rapids area of the river, a popular spot for rafting enthusiasts.

Emergency response

The Grand County Sheriff’s Office received a distressing 911 text at 3:40 p.m. reporting a person in the river not breathing. First responders from both Grand and Eagle counties rushed to the scene, where they found a bystander attempting CPR on the victim. Despite their efforts, the 56-year-old man from Denver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other individuals were in the raft when it overturned. One managed to swim to safety, but the other remained missing. Rescue teams utilised rafts, ground crews, Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), and a Union Pacific Railroad Hi-Rail in the search for the missing man, but he was not located.

Search and rescue efforts

River rangers from the Bureau of Land Management, along with local authorities, continued the search on Sunday. The missing man, also from the Denver area, has yet to be identified. In the meantime, officials urge anyone in the area to report any sightings or information to aid in the search.
