Incident at Awutu Senya East Constituency

In a recent development in the Awutu Senya East Constituency, tensions have risen following a scuffle that left a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) injured. The incident took place at a local gathering where both NDC and NPP members were present.

Call for Thorough Police Investigation

Delali Sewokpor, the Awutu Senya East Constituency Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter to ensure that justice is not selectively applied. He expressed concern over the arrest of the NDC constituency organiser, Daniel Techie Mensah, while the NPP organiser was allowed to go free.

Question of Partiality

Sewokpor raised questions about the partiality in the police’s handling of the situation. He pointed out that although both NDC and NPP executives were present during the altercation, only the NDC organiser was arrested. This has raised concerns about a possible bias in the treatment of the two political parties.

Allegations of Previous Violence

According to Sewokpor, this incident is not an isolated one. He alleged that in the lead-up to the 2020 elections, Ato Koomson, the son of NPP MP and Minister of Fisheries Mavis Hawa Koomson, led thugs to attack NDC members. Despite this, the police only arrested an NDC member who tried to protect the victims, while Ato Koomson went unpunished.

Importance of Fair Discipline

Sewokpor emphasized the importance of fair and equal treatment by the police when it comes to enforcing discipline. He called for a non-selective approach to maintaining law and order in the community.

Arrest of Suspects

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, three individuals were arrested at Ofaakor near Kasoa in the Central Region for allegedly possessing firearms without lawful authority. Among the suspects is Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunnor, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for the Awutu Senya East Constituency.

As the situation unfolds, there is a growing need for transparency and fairness in the handling of such cases to ensure that justice is served without bias.
