Disturbances at Electoral Commission’s Office in Kasoa Spark Calls for Investigation

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Awutu Senya East Constituency of the Central Region is demanding a thorough, transparent, and unbiased investigation into the recent disturbances that took place at the Electoral Commission’s office in Kasoa. The incident, which occurred on Sunday morning, resulted in the arrest of the party’s constituency organiser, Daniel Techie Mensah, and the Parliamentary Candidate after an altercation that allegedly led to one person being stabbed.

The injured individual, identified as Ato Koomson, is the son of NPP MP for Awutu Senya East and Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mavis Hawa Koomson. He is currently receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital after sustaining a stab wound to the chest. The NDC has expressed concern over the arrest of its members, stating that it appears selective and raises questions about the impartiality of the police’s response.

In a statement issued by the Constituency Communication Officer, Comrade Stephen Delali Sowoekpor, the NDC emphasized that they are closely monitoring the police’s actions regarding the incident, especially in light of the historical context of attacks on NDC supporters allegedly orchestrated by Hawa Koomson.

The NDC Communication Bureau of the Awutu Senya East Constituency has condemned the violent incident that occurred at the Electoral Commission’s office in Kasoa. According to the statement, the NPP violated an agreement with the police and the main political parties in the constituency by busing in a group of individuals to the center in the early hours of the morning. This led to a confrontation between the NPP members, the police, and the NDC supporters present at the scene.
