The Tragic Landslides in Mizoram

Vanlalruali and her husband had gone missing after being struck by a landslide in Aibawk village in Aizawl district. Her body was discovered in the river in Hortoki village in Kolasib district, which shares a border with Assam. The tragic news was confirmed by her family members after her body was retrieved and taken to Kawnpui.

Search for Missing Persons

As the community mourns the loss of Vanlalruali and others, efforts are underway to locate five other missing individuals. Among the missing are four persons from Melthum, including a six-month-old baby, as well as Vanlalruali’s husband. The search and rescue operations continue in hopes of finding them and bringing closure to their families.

Chief Minister Lalduhoma has taken swift action in response to the disaster, announcing an ex-gratia amount of Rs 4 lakh for the next of kin of the deceased. The government has also earmarked Rs 15 crore to address the aftermath of the landslides caused by Cyclone Remal. This financial support aims to assist those affected by the natural calamity and aid in rebuilding efforts.
