In the small village of Seraulim, a tragedy unfolded that has left the community in mourning and demanding answers. The death of a young man from Navelim has sparked outrage among the villagers, leading to a candlelight vigil to protest the alleged poor engineering of the underpass and its connecting roadways.

Seraulim is a peaceful village nestled in the heart of South Goa, known for its lush greenery and close-knit community. However, recent events have shaken the villagers to their core, highlighting the dangers posed by the underpass and the need for urgent action.

The underpass in question connects two vital points in the village – the wholesale fish market on one end and the main Seraulim-Mungul road on the other. However, instead of being a safe passage for commuters, it has become a source of concern due to its faulty design and lack of proper maintenance.

On a fateful Saturday, tragedy struck when a collision between a tipper truck and a scooter claimed the life of 19-year-old Raylon Fernandes, leaving the community in shock. The driver of the tipper truck, identified as Ramesh Bapu Patekar, allegedly drove recklessly, leading to the fatal accident near Palmira Bai Bar in Seraulim.

As the villagers mourn the loss of a promising young life, they are also determined to take action to prevent such incidents in the future. They have vowed to hold the village panchayat accountable for addressing encroachments on the roads and ensuring public safety.

Saturnino Rodrigues, a resident of Seraulim, expressed the frustration felt by the villagers over the lack of response from authorities regarding the underpass and its associated risks. Despite numerous appeals to government agencies, including the Konkan Railway and PWD, no concrete action has been taken to address the concerns raised by the community.

Members of the Seraulim Speak, a socio-political group within the village, have been vocal in their criticism of the illegal nature of the underpass. They point out that the structure has never received formal approval and is prone to flooding even with minimal rainfall, posing a serious threat to pedestrians and commuters.

As the villagers come together to demand justice for Raylon Fernandes and ensure the safety of their community, they are determined to make their voices heard and bring about the necessary changes to prevent further tragedies from occurring in Seraulim.
