Arrest of Suspected Handler in Sri Lanka
Following the arrest of four Sri Lankans at Ahmedabad airport in India for their alleged links with the banned Islamic State (ISIS) outfit, Sri Lankan Police have made a significant breakthrough by apprehending the suspected handler, Pushparaja Osman, in Colombo. The Criminal Investigation Department carried out the arrest on Friday, bringing Osman into custody.

Prior to his arrest, Sri Lanka Police had issued a wanted notice for Osman, offering a cash award of Rs. 2 million for any credible information on his whereabouts. A video seeking information from the public was also released by the authorities in an effort to track down Osman.

Authorities believe that Osman had direct telephone contact with the four individuals who were arrested at Ahmedabad airport. The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad detained the Sri Lankans with suspected ISIS links after they arrived on an Indigo flight from Colombo to Chennai on May 19.

While the police spokesman, Nihal Thalduwa, confirmed Osman’s arrest, he mentioned that the connection between the four detainees and ISIS has yet to be definitively established. Investigations are ongoing to determine if the individuals promoted ISIS ideology in Sri Lanka.
