According to the fatal crash summary, the Buick was travelling eastbound in the 2000 block of East Grand near McClendon when Gary Depew lost control of the vehicle. The car first struck the guardrail on the right side of the road, then crossed over both lanes of traffic and hit the bridge railing on the left side. A 2016 Toyota Corolla, which was in the left lane, tried to avoid the Buick but made slight contact with the rear of the vehicle. At the scene, officers found a 2001 Buick Century that had left the roadway and ended up upside down in the middle branch of Gulpha Creek. The Buick, driven by Gary D. Depew, was travelling eastbound alongside a 2016 Toyota Corolla driven by Lily Waycaster, 26, of Hot Springs Village. Waycaster, who was unharmed in the incident, remained on the road after the collision.

Hot Springs Police Chief Billy Hrvatin was present at the scene, where a deceased female and a male occupant were discovered in the Buick. The names of the individuals were withheld pending notification of next of kin, and the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
