In a tragic turn of events, a polling official and an elderly voter lost their lives as voting commenced for the final phase of elections in Odisha. The incident took place in Fatehpur in the Binjharpur Assembly constituency and booth no 159 of Ishwarpur gram panchayat of Nilagiri Assembly constituency in Balasore district.

Polling Official’s Sudden Demise

Booth-level officer Manoranjan Sahu passed away in Fatehpur after experiencing chest pain. Despite immediate medical attention, he was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. The sudden loss of an official dedicated to ensuring a smooth electoral process has left a somber atmosphere in the area.

Elderly Voter’s Tragic End

Similarly, an elderly voter named Surendra Mohanty breathed his last at booth no 159 of Ishwarpur gram panchayat. The heat and humidity in the coastal districts posed a challenge for many voters, with several experiencing discomfort while waiting in queues to cast their votes.
