The Incident in Kansas City, Kansas

In a recent incident in Kansas City, Kansas, tragedy struck when a carjacking led to an officer-involved shooting. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) identified the man killed in the incident as Jason A. Burk, 41, of Kansas City, Missouri.

Carjacking and Pursuit

It all started just before 7 p.m. when a citizen reported to the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department (KCPD) that two male suspects had carjacked her blue 2010 GMC Terrain at gunpoint from the area of East 24th Street and Highland Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri. KCPD spotted the stolen SUV just after 8 p.m. in the 1500 block of Paseo, initiating a pursuit when the driver refused to stop.

The pursuit then entered Kansas City, Kansas, where officers from the KCKPD, Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP), and Mission Police Department joined in. The chase continued until a KHP trooper conducted a tactical vehicle intervention, causing the stolen SUV to spin around and strike a guard rail, ultimately ending the pursuit along U.S. Highway 69 and the 18th Street Expressway.

Officer-Involved Shooting

After the vehicle came to a stop, the 41-year-old male driver, later identified as Burk, began firing rounds from the SUV at responding officers. Two officers from KCKPD and five officers from KCPD returned fire, resulting in Burk being struck multiple times. Despite efforts to save him, Burk was pronounced dead at the hospital.
