On a Friday night in Finksburg, Maryland, tragedy struck as Maryland State Police responded to a fatal crash in Carroll County. The incident took place near the North Branch Patapsco River bridge replacement project on Emory Road at Cedarhurst Road.
Details of the Crash
The crash occurred just before 11:30 pm when a 2022 Ford Explorer was travelling north on Emory Road. Investigators believe that the driver, identified as 41-year-old Geoffrey Brittingham of Hampstead, failed to stop for a closed construction zone at the bridge project. This led to a collision with a 2014 Volvo excavator and a Mack dump truck.
Tragically, Brittingham was pronounced dead at the scene. His 7-year-old son, who was in the rear of the vehicle, sustained injuries and was rushed to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore for treatment. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported at the scene.
