Investigators believe that the driver, identified as 41-year-old Geoffrey Brittingham of Hampstead, failed to stop for a closed construction zone at the bridge project. This led to a collision with a 2014 Volvo excavator and a Mack dump truck.
Tragically, Brittingham was pronounced dead at the scene. His 7-year-old son, who was in the rear of the vehicle, sustained injuries and was rushed to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore for treatment. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported at the scene.
