The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) identified three individuals who tragically lost their lives in a wrong-way crash on I-25. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, May 26, when a Kia Sportage collided head-on with a Volkswagen in the northbound lanes. A good Samaritan who stopped to help was also fatally struck by another vehicle. The victims were identified as Darlisse Rivera-Albino, Heidi Jackson, and Joel Frank Montalvo. The crash, suspected to involve drugs and/or alcohol, is still under investigation. This marks the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs in 2024, compared to 19 at the same time in 2023.

The Unfortunate Victims

The tragic incident claimed the lives of three individuals. The driver of the wrong-way Kia Sportage was identified as 37-year-old Darlisse Rivera-Albino. The driver of the northbound Volkswagen, who was hit head-on, was 46-year-old Heidi Jackson. Additionally, a good Samaritan, 64-year-old Joel Frank Montalvo, stopped to help but was struck and killed by another northbound vehicle.
