Manhunt underway in Monroe, NC for wanted attempted murder suspect

Authorities in Monroe, North Carolina, are currently engaged in a frantic search for a wanted attempted murder suspect who managed to escape custody on Friday night. The suspect in question has been identified as Cleveland Waters, a 42-year-old Black man from Waxhaw. He was last seen wearing black pants and a red shirt and may still be in handcuffs. Waters is considered to be armed and dangerous, so if spotted, the public is advised not to approach him and call 911 immediately.

The incident that sparked this manhunt took place around 4:30 a.m. on Friday when Monroe police responded to a call on Winchester Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered a victim who had been shot multiple times. Further investigation revealed that the shooting occurred on English Street, and the victim had fled to Winchester Avenue where he collapsed. Fortunately, the victim was rushed to the hospital and is expected to survive his injuries.

Following their investigation, authorities were able to identify Cleveland Waters as the prime suspect in the shooting. Warrants were issued for his arrest, and he was subsequently located at a residence on Locklyn Road in Waxhaw. Despite being apprehended, Waters managed to escape custody before being booked into jail. He was last seen in the vicinity of Carroll Street, Rolling Hill Drive, and King Arthur Drive.

A comprehensive search operation was launched by Monroe police and the Union County Sheriff’s Office, utilizing K9 units and advanced search techniques. However, their efforts were unsuccessful, and Waters remains at large. Detectives believe that he has since fled the area.

Active manhunt and ongoing investigation

The Monroe Police Department has called upon additional resources from neighbouring agencies, as well as state and federal authorities, to assist in the search for Waters. He currently faces multiple charges, including attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

This is an active and ongoing investigation, and anyone with information regarding Waters’ whereabouts is urged to contact 911 immediately. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Union County Crime Stoppers, with the possibility of a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to Waters’ arrest.
