On a fateful morning in Johor Baru, tragedy struck as a Toyota Alphard MPV veered off course and landed in a ditch at Kilometre 14.3 of the Sultan Iskandar Highway. The incident, which occurred at 8.11 am, claimed the lives of three individuals, including the woman driver and two passengers.

Details of the Incident

According to Johor Baru Utara district police deputy chief Supt Yusof Othman, the MPV was travelling from Bukit Indah towards Johor Bahru when it lost control. The driver, a woman in her 30s, was unable to navigate the vehicle, causing it to skid off the road and plunge into a drain with a depth of water of about three metres.

Tragically, all three victims succumbed to internal injuries at the scene. The driver and the male passenger, who was 27 years old, were siblings, while the female passenger, aged 35, was a friend of the family.

Investigation and Identification

The case is currently under investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Meanwhile, Larkin Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Senior Fire Officer (PBK ) I Haizrul Rahmad confirmed that all the victims were locals. The driver was identified as Chu Wan Rou, the male passenger as Chu Wei Yean, and the female passenger as Aw Siew Chern.
