Nantucket Pride Celebrates LGBTQ+ Pride Month
Nantucket Pride is gearing up for LGBTQ+ Pride Month, which kicks off on June 1st. Despite the current political tensions and the recent passing of anti-LGBTQ bills in several states, the organization is determined to make its voice heard.
The brainchild of cofounders Sean Allen and Aileen Dashurova, Nantucket Pride was established in 2018 to bring Pride celebrations and build a sense of community for the queer population on the island. After graduating from Antioch College, where a significant portion of the student body identified as queer, Allen returned to Nantucket and noticed the absence of a visible queer community in his hometown.
